Early Life Born: 15 September 1909, Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu.

 Family: Came from a weaver’s family.

 Education: Completed schooling in Kanchipuram. 

Graduated in Economics and Politics from Pachaiyappa’s College, Chennai.

 Earned M.A. in Economics and Politics (1934). He was deeply influenced by Periyar E. V. Ramasamy’s Self-Respect Movement and became active in social reform.

 Entry into Public Life Began his career as a teacher and writer. Powerful orator in Tamil, known for simple but impactful speeches.

 Joined Justice Party → Dravidar Kazhagam (Periyar’s movement). In 1949, after differences with Periyar, he founded the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). 

Political Career DMK’s growth: Focused on Tamil language, anti-Hindi imposition, and social justice.

Attracted youth, writers, and film industry support. 

Elections 1967: DMK won and Anna became Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu (1967–1969).  Achievements as Chief Minister Midday Meal Scheme for school children (expanded later by MGR).
